HINDRANCES TO HOLINESS
HINDRANCES TO HOLINESS
Text: 1Peter 1:13-16.
Aim: I. To remind us that there are hindrances to holiness;
II. To know that these hindrances can be overcome.
INTRODUCTION:
Before we discuss the hindrances to holiness, we ask the question: what is Holiness? Holiness is defined as being separated and consecrated to God. Holiness can be said to be a state of sacredness. It is inevitable for a Christian to be holy; unfortunately there are some hindrances that keep one from being unholy. Hindrances are within and around us; they at present with us everyday. They try to stop us from doing what we ought to do and make us do what we should not do. (Rom. 7:14-25).
QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION :
Mention things that hinder us from being holy. (1Cor. 15:33; 1Kings 12:25-14:20; Judges 16)
From the following Bible passages, mention some behaviours that can make us unholy before God.
a). Prov. 8:13; b). Matthew 5:28;
c). Lev. 19:28 -31; d). Gal. 5: 19-21;
e). Col. 3:5; f). 1 Cor. 6:9,18;
g). Rev. 21:8.
How can ignorance, arrogance and pride hinder us from being holy? (Prov. 16:18; Isaiah 13:11; Hab. 2:4).
Mention four practical ways to improve our relationship with God. (Matt. 6:9-13, 24; Prov. 4:2; Gal 5:22-25).
CONCLUSION:
Therefore as children of God who want to be set aside for God's use, let us move nearer to God and avoid things that will hinder our holiness before his presence. Let us mind the kind of friends we keep, what we watch, do and say. For the Bible says "...without holiness, it is impossible to please God." (Heb. 12:14).
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Man is attracted to sin much easier than to righteousness.
